Just browsing cars like any respectable oppo would do, when I come upon the Fiat 500e. A California and now Oregon only fully electric Fiat 500.
New it’s a ridiculous $30k plus price tag (however in Cali there are $14k in combined incentives on a new one!?) I know Fiats have terrible depreciation, but sub $8k already seems nuts!

https://www.carvana.com/search/2000040870/2013-fiat-500e-base

My wife only tools around town and she has fallen in love with my Abarth. I’ve been wanting to test the waters on something electric, so why not I thought! To the googles I went, C&D lays down the facts.

The first of which RANGE OF 87 MILES! That’s a few miles before the gas light comes on in some cars. Immediate pass from this guy.

If it wasn’t such a hideous color, it’d be the perfect commuter.

87 isn’t bad. For cars w/o range extenders, that’s better than everything that’s not a Tesla or i3.

But that depreciation says maybe their packs aren’t the best.

that’s what I sent to my wife, there must be something that goes real bad in this haha

range anxiety would be very high for me

Marchionne literally requested no one to buy those because they lose so much on them.

Last I checked the 500e, Pacifica Hybrid, and LaFerrari were the only hybrid/electric vehicles in FCA’s offerings.

I could do a full round-trip commute on 87 miles per charge without the slightest bit of anxiety, so it would be practically perfect. The low price and small size are bonuses...

Couldn’t get over that color, though.

quite a few available through Carvana for that price point. That one just had lower miles than others (same price point for 10k more miles). Reviews of it aren’t bad, one guy complaining about the charge port being fragile

Why not?

Just use it for short trips ... and I kind of like the color.

I’d struggle with range anxiety quite a bit haha

Good lord. I’d consider one for a daily if I had a place to put a charger, but only because my commute is about 5 miles.

That would be perfect for me given I never go more than 40 miles a day.

My 1.4L Fiat 500 depreciated 50% from MSRP from when I bought it new in January 2014 until I traded it in March 2015.

Of course, I didn’t actually pay anywhere near MSRP to begin with. But still...

I bought my Abarth used. I don’t regret that

The major thing I think of when it comes to a Fiat electric car is we are looking at an electric car from a company known for shady electricals..... seems like something i might avoid lol

Used is smart. I should have bought my 500 used.

I’ve heard of people are leasing new ones for under $200 a month for 36 months. Perfect commuter car. That’s a steal + not having to fill up.

10k miles on the clock when I picked up my ‘13. Still two and half years of OEM warranty left. I am still very happy with it :) I’d consider a 124 once they start hitting the used market

The depreciation is because it’s competing against insanely good lease deals on new ones - like, as low as $50/mo for 36 months with no money down. When you can get a new one for that, a used one doesn’t make any sense unless it’s dirt cheap.

Also, for non-Tesla, non-i3 cars with more range, the BYD e6 is at 187 miles (wait, that thing’s certified in the US?), the 30 kWh Leaf is at 107 miles, the Focus Electric is at 100 miles, the Soul Electric is at 93 miles, and the Mercedes B250e is at 87 miles. (The Fiat 500e is at 84, not 87, per fueleconomy.gov.)

Seriously?

I’m totally confused by the plug in market. I was just looking at used i3s. With a range extender, a 2014 is about $35k. Without it, it’s $20k. The original MSRP delta is about $4k.

I think this is a study in turbulent supply and demand.

That’d be awesome for me. My commute is 9 miles one way. I usually do 200 miles a week. But, it’s an orange Fiat, so no.

Depreciation of electric cars should only be viewed post incentives $16k down to $8k. That is why they depreciate from MSRP so much.

there are other colors out there, this just had the lowest miles and all priced around the same point

Well, it’s also a Fiat. And my infant son’s gargantuan car seat would be a huge pain. Haha. That’s why I went from a Mazda3 to a Mazda6 when my wife got pregnant.

oh yeah, no dice there. Back seat overall area is also smaller due to the floor being elevated. It’s already not really a seat back there haha

Interesting. Can any Fiat dealership work on them or just dealerships in California?

This would make a nice little runabout in my community rather than a golf cart or SxS ATV since I don’t trail ride much anymore.

would assume any could work on it by the manual, but they wouldn’t have experience with it unless in cali.
